Grading is given to reflect the overall impression of a book’s condition. However, here are some basic guidelines-
Very nice condition;
No clear imperfections, near new
Nice condition;
Overall pristine, but for a minor imperfection
Very good condition;
Minor imperfections or signs of ageing
Good;
Solid and complete, a reading copy
Fair;
Significant wear & tear;
I don’t regularly sell books in ‘Fair’ condition, but there are exceptions in the case of very special or rare books.
Sometimes a plus sign + is added to a grading to indicate a slightly higher grade, but not quite.
